Overview
Summer Zoo Camp 2008 is offered June 9 through August 11, 2008, for ages 3-years-old through entering 6th grade.
Times & Tuition for ages 3 and 4, entering Kindergarten and First and Second Grade:
Morning - 9 a.m. to noon;
non-members: $150 per week, five half-day mornings, Monday-Friday
members: $140 per week, five half-day mornings, Monday-Friday
Afternoon - 1 to 4 p.m.;
non-members: $130 per week, five half-day afternoons, Monday-Friday
members: $120 per week, five half-day afternoons, Monday-Friday
First and Second Graders may also attend Morning and Afternoon sessions;
non-members: $270 per week for five all-day classes, Monday-Friday
members: $260 per week for five all-day classes, Monday-Friday
Campers bring their lunch daily.
Times & Tuition for Entering Third and Fourth Grade:
9 a.m. to 4 p.m.;
non-members: $180 per week, five all-day classes, Monday-Friday;
members: $170 per week, five all-day classes, Monday-Friday;
includes Thursday Adventure Night with pizza supper and evening Zoo activities; bring own lunch daily
Times & Tuition for Entering Fifth and Sixth Grade:
9 a.m. to 4 p.m.;
non-members: $195 per week, five all-day classes, Monday-Friday;
members: $185 per week, five all-day classes, Monday-Friday;
includes Thursday overnight; bring own lunch daily
Each Summer Camp session includes:
- Guided Zoo tours to observe and learn facts about the featured Zoo animals
- Summer Zoo Camp T-shirt
- Snacks
- Zoo animal information
- Wild Wonders live animal presentations
- Craft activities related to the featured Zoo animals
- Special in-Zoo activities
- Parent newsletter.
During morning and afternoon Zoo visits, campers have their own bottles of water while in the Zoo. In-Zoo activities alternate between indoor and outdoor animal exhibits. During the summer, the Zoo is shady, and many of the outdoor exhibits feature misters.
TOPIC: World Tour of the Continents
Campers explore the Zoo to discover how various species of animals survive on different continents. From the extremes of Africa to the tropical rainforest, campers investigate how animals live, move and endure in habitats around the globe.

TOPIC: Animal Behavior
Campers investigate how animals communicate through vocalizations, body language and scent. By learning a few of the basics, campers discover how zoo keepers use training methods in a study of human and animal communication. Campers walk the walk and talk the talk as they trek through the Zoo to observe animal communication.

TOPIC: Features and Adaptations
Campers learn how animals survive in their wild environments using camouflage and physical adaptations. Animals are studied inside and out as campers investigate the biological and physiological aspects of various species. The Zoo becomes a field of study as campers observe the animals in action.
